Since our founding 16 years ago, the Global Alliance for Women’s Health (GAWH) has been actively involved at the United Nations. GAWH has been in association with the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) since 1994, and has been in Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1997. Over the years, GAWH has dynamically utilized our DPI and ECOSOC status to advise, inform, and advocate within the UN in an effort to influence global policy toward the advancement of women’s health worldwide.

GAWH’s history at the UN has been prolific and our advocacy has successfully turned the spotlight on a wide range of women’s health needs. We have held well over 100 roundtables, seminars, and forums on critical women’s health issues at the UN in many regions of the world, including New York, Addis Ababa, Beijing, Dakar, Geneva, Jakarta, Madrid, Turin, and Vienna. By holding symposia with UN representatives, NGOs, governmental and intergovernmental agencies, academics, and citizens from across the globe, GAWH has helped to facilitate collaborations between public and private sectors that have led to advancements in women’s healthcare policies worldwide. In addition, our symposia have contributed to the dissemination of valuable women’s health information.
